Alkaline Trio est un groupe de punk pop, formé dans la région de Chicago par Matt Skiba, ancien batteur reconverti dans le chant et la guitare. Même s’il a souvent changé de batteur et de bassiste, le trio est resté fidèle à son nom en studio et est passé progressivement du circuit underground à la scène rock alternative, en produisant six albums en dix ans, après un très convaincant premier album Goddamnit!, en 1998.
