José Albano Cid de Ferreira Tavares, also known as José Cid, born on February 4, 1942, in Chamusca, Portugal, is a Portuguese singer, composer, and record producer. His professional career began with the covers band Os Babies in 1956. In 1960, he formed Conjunto Orfeão and later joined Trio Los Dos and Os Claves. Cid co-founded Quarteto 1111 in 1968, Portugal's first symphonic rock band, known for hits like "El Rei D. Sebastião". His progressive rock albums include Cantamos Pessoas Vivas (1974), Vida (Sons do Quotidiano) (1977), and 10,000 Anos Depois Entre Vénus e Marte (1978). He won third place at the OTI Festival in 1979 with "Na cabana junto à praia" and represented Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest 1980 with "Um grande, grande amor". His album Xi-Coração was released in 1986. He has received numerous awards, including a Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019.
