Checkfield is an American eclectic music ensemble from San Diego, California, founded by Ron Satterfield and John Archer. The duo met in 1970 at Mesa College and reunited in 1977 to work on home recordings and perform live locally. Their debut album, Spirit, was released in 1982. The group later signed with American Gramaphone, releasing four albums between 1986 and 1992. These recordings include Water, Wind and Stone (1986), Distant Thunder (1987), Through the Lens (1988), and their most commercially successful release, A View from the Edge (1990), which peaked at number 15 on the Billboard Top New Age Albums chart. In 1997, they issued a retrospective compilation titled Reflections on a Decade, followed by the albums Vistas (1998) and Surrounded (2003).
