Zig Zags, an American heavy metal/punk rock trio from Los Angeles, was formed in 2010 by singer/guitarist Jed Maheu. The band's name originates from a slang term for cheap canvas shoes that Maheu and the original drummer were wearing at the time. Their initial releases included singles such as "Monster Wizard" (2012), followed by their debut album Zig Zags on June 17, 2014, which was recorded and mixed by Ty Segall. The band's lineup evolved over the years, with drummer Dane Arnold and bassist Caleb Miller joining in 2016, and later Sean Hoffman taking on bass duties, with Jeff Murray on drums. Notable albums include They’ll Never Take Us Alive (2019) and Strange Masters (2024), the latter being an album of re-recorded songs. Zig Zags have been recognized for their unique blend of heavy metal and punk rock, often compared to bands like Black Sabbath, Black Flag, and Motörhead.
