Deborah Coleman, born on October 3, 1956 in Portsmouth, Virginia, was an American blues guitarist, songwriter, and singer. She began playing guitar at eight and performed professionally as a bassist by 15. After winning a National Amateur Talent Search in 1993, she secured a recording contract with New Moon Records, releasing her album I Can't Lose in 1997 followed by Where Blue Begins (1998), Soft Place To Fall (2000), Livin’ On Love (2001), Soul Be It! (2002), What About Love? (2004), and Stop The Game (2007). She toured with Charlie Musselwhite, Corey Harris and Elvin Bishop in 2002 and performed at major blues festivals worldwide. In 2001 she received the Orville Gibson Award for Best Female Blues Guitarist and was nominated nine times for the Blues Music Award. Coleman died of complications from bronchitis and pneumonia on April 12, 2018 at age 61.
