Cry Before Dawn first formed in Wexford in 1982. Combining the intensity of guitar-driven rock with the rich heritage of traditional Irish pipes and whistles, they create a powerful and dynamic sound that sets them apart in the music scene
The band has reached incredible heights with two double platinum-selling albums and a collection of prestigious national awards. Among these, they won “Best Newcomer” in 1987 and “Best Irish Group” in 1989, showcasing their widespread acclaim and popularity across the nation.
Renowned for their passionate and electrifying performances, they gained a dedicated following through extensive live shows in Ireland, the UK, and the USA
To coincide with their 2025 Irish Tour dates, on 1 August the band released “Open Water”, a 6 track EP and the band’s first vinyl release since 1989. The EP débuted at No. 1 in the Official Irish Independent Album Chart, and No. 2 in the overall Official Irish Album Chart
March 2026 saw the 40th anniversary of Cry Before Dawn signing to CBS Records (now Sony Music), and to celebrate this landmark date, the band released a retrospective album in digital format “Songs That Got Away: 1984 – 1990”. The album features songs from the band’s formative years as well as rare tracks which have never been available in digital format previously
