Raúl Barboza, born on June 22, 1938, in Buenos Aires, was an accordionist known for his contributions to chamamé and Litoral music. He began playing the accordion at age six. His career took off when he joined Ariel Ramírez’s company and ballet. Throughout his extensive career, he released over 30 albums. He collaborated with prominent artists such as Atahualpa Yupanqui, Astor Piazzolla, and Mercedes Sosa. In 1987, he moved to France, where he became a key figure in promoting chamamé music in Europe. His album Raúl Barboza (1993) won several awards, including the Grand Prix Charles Cros and Diapason d’or. He received numerous accolades, such as the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from France in 2000. He passed away on August 26, 2025, at the age of 87.
