Cex is the musical project of American musician Rjyan Claybrook Kidwell, launched in 1998 while he was still in high school in Maryland. Initially associated with the intelligent dance music (IDM) scene, Kidwell released his debut album Cells (1998) on his own CD-R label, _underscore, before co-founding the independent label Tigerbeat6 with Miguel Depedro (Kid606). Subsequent releases included Role Model (2000), Oops, I Did It Again! (2001), and Tall, Dark & Handcuffed (2002), which marked a shift toward vocal-driven material. Kidwell has also collaborated on the Sand Cats project and has worked extensively in experimental theatre as a performer, writer, and sound designer.
