Beauty Pill, an American post-rock band from Washington, D.C., was formed in 2001 around singer/guitarist/producer Chad Clark. Following the dissolution of their previous band Smart Went Crazy, Clark and Abram Goodrich invited Joanne Gholl to form a trio and released the EP The Cigarette Girl From the Future. Rachel Burke joined in 2003, leading to the release of the lo-fi EP You Are Right To Be Afraid and the full-length album The Unsustainable Lifestyle. After Burke left, Jean Cook replaced her. In 2007, Clark underwent emergency open-heart surgery due to viral cardiomyopathy. The band returned in 2010 with the score for the play suicide.chat.room, which received critical acclaim. Beauty Pill's album Describes Things as They Are was released in 2015 and included in numerous best-of-year lists, cited by TIME Magazine as one of the ten best albums of the decade.
