Rites of Spring was an American punk rock band from Washington, D.C., formed in late 1983 by Guy Picciotto, Brendan Canty, Mike Fellows, and Eddie Janney. The group notably became a mainstay act of the 1985 Revolution Summer movement. Their music blended the intensity of hardcore punk with emotional lyrics, contributing to the development of what is now known as emo-core. Their debut album, Rites of Spring, was recorded in February 1985 at Inner Ear Studios and released on Dischord Records that year. Rites of Spring performed 19 shows and disbanded in January 1986. Post-breakup, members went on to form notable bands such as Fugazi and Miighty Flashlight.
