A.B. Original, an Australian hip-hop duo consisting of Indigenous Australian rappers Briggs and record producer Trials, was formed in 2016. The duo met in the early 2000s at a Funkoars gig in Melbourne and solidified their partnership after performing at Triple J's Beat the Drum festival in 2015. Their album Reclaim Australia was released in 2016, featuring collaborations with artists such as Thelma Plum, G. Yunupingu, and Archie Roach. The album addressed themes of systemic racism and Indigenous issues, including "January 26" (2016), which comments on the use of that date for Australia Day. At the 2017 AIR Independent Music Awards, they won five awards, including Breakthrough Independent Artist of the Year and Best Independent Hip Hop Album. They also received the Songwriter of the Year award at the APRA Music Awards in 2018. After a hiatus, they returned with "King Billy Cokebottle" in 2022 and "Yes" in 2023.
