Johnny Truant was an English metalcore band from Brighton, England, formed in 2000 under the name Severance. They renamed themselves after a character from Mark Z. Danielewski's novel House of Leaves and released a self-released album, Insecta Evolution (2001), followed by the album The Repercussions of a Badly Planned Suicide (2002). They gained traction with a second album, In the Library of Horrific Events (2005), produced by Adam Dutkiewicz of Killswitch Engage. They toured extensively across the UK, Europe, and Canada, performing at the Download Festival in 2005, 2006, and 2008. A third album, No Tears for the Creatures (2008), was produced by Dan Weller and Justin Hill of Sikth. Despite signing to Ferret Music in the US, they announced a split in October 2008, concluding with a final show in December 2008.
