Racer X was an American heavy metal band formed in 1985 in Los Angeles, California. The group's initial lineup included Paul Gilbert on guitar, Jeff Martin as vocalist, Juan Alderete on bass, and Harry Gschoesser on drums. Their debut album, Street Lethal (1986), was released under Shrapnel Records. In 1987, Bruce Bouillet joined on guitar and Scott Travis replaced Gschoesser on drums, leading to the release of their second album, Second Heat (1987). Gilbert left the group in 1988 to form Mr. Big with Billy Sheehan, leading the band to disband by 1989. The band reunited in 1999 without Bouillet, releasing three studio albums and two live albums before separating again in 2003. They later played a one-off reunion show in 2009.
