Ewan Dobson is a Canadian guitarist, composer, and arranger whose work spans
classical guitar, progressive fingerstyle, acoustic metal, flatpicking, and
video game-inspired instrumental music. With over 20 albums, extensive
international touring (Canada, United States, Europe, Japan, and China), and
a YouTube catalog that has surpassed 85 million views, he is known for his
highly original approach to the acoustic guitar.
His composition “Time 2” reached #1 on the iTunes charts in Finland,
Sweden, and Germany in 2011 (and charted in the top five in several other
countries). He has collaborated twice with Marty Friedman, performing
acoustic parts on “Horrors” from Inferno (parts written by
Friedman and Jason Becker—the first Friedman–Becker collaboration since
Cacophony) and “The Blackest Rose” from Wall of Sound.
His classical output includes arrangements of Niccolò Paganini and
world-premiere recordings of previously unrecorded Domenico Scarlatti
keyboard sonatas adapted for guitar. In 2025 his complete works (2004–2025)
were preserved at the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick. Outside music,
he has been featured in Bird Watcher’s Digest for documenting 28
species of wild birds landing on his hand. Based in New Brunswick, he
continues as an independent artist.
