Bhaskar Chandavarkar

Bhaskar Chandavarkar was an Indian sitar player and composer who was born in 1936. He studied under Pandit Ravi Shankar and Umashankar Misra and served as a resident composer and faculty member at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) between 1965 and 1980. Chandavarkar is famous for blending Indian classical and Western music in scores for film and theatre. His discography includes the scores for the films Vamsha Vriksha (1971), Maya Darpan (1972), Ondanondu Kaladalli (1978), and Khandhar (1984). He received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1988 and the National Film Award for his work on the film Chaitra (2002). He died in 2009.
