Monette Moore, born May 19, 1902 in Gainesville, Texas, was an American jazz and blues singer. Raised in Kansas City, Missouri, she taught herself piano and began working as a theater pianist in the early 1920s. In 1923 and 1924, Moore recorded for Paramount Records in Chicago and New York City. She collaborated with Charlie Johnson's ensemble at Smalls Paradise and recorded with him in 1927 and 1928. Throughout the 1920s, she performed in various cities including Chicago, Dallas, and Oklahoma City. In the 1930s, she recorded with Fats Waller in 1932 and filled in for Ethel Waters as an understudy. Moore moved to Los Angeles in 1942, where she performed frequently in nightclubs and appeared in films such as Yes Sir, Mr. Bones (1951) and The Outsider. She died of emphysema on October 21, 1962.
