La Banda Tecno de Beto y Juan is a Peruvian tecnocumbia group best known for the 1992 album Cumbia Con Clase, a project created by producer-composer Edilberto “Beto” Cuestas and composer-singer Juan Mosto Domecq. Emerging from Peru’s vibrant cumbia and tropical music scene in the early 1990s, they fused Andean melodies, electronic textures, and traditional cumbia rhythms, creating a sound that appealed to both dance halls and radio audiences. Cumbia Con Clase introduced enduring songs such as “Paloma Ajena,” “Aprendiendo a Vivir,” “Vamos Hacer el Amor Con Amor,” “El Rouge de Tus Labios,” “La Mordida,” “Rey y Mendigo,” “Pericia de Cumbia,” “Amante de Dos,” and “El Eco de los Beatles.” Among these, “Paloma Ajena” became the group’s signature track, later appearing in versions credited jointly to La Banda Tecno de Beto y Juan and Los Ecos, highlighting the strong ties between the group and other Peruvian cumbia acts. Beto Cuestas served as producer and arranger, while Juan Mosto contributed as singer and writer, shaping the sound of tracks that combined heartfelt lyrics with upbeat, danceable arrangements. Although their discography centers on this early-1990s period, the music of La Banda Tecno de Beto y Juan has resurfaced through digital reissues and streaming platforms in the 2020s, allowing new generations of listeners to rediscover their place in the history of Peruvian tecnocumbia.
