Freedom for King Kong was a French alternative rock ensemble from Lorient established in 1996. They achieved professional recognition for a musical style characterized by alternative rock, electronic programming, and reggae and for performing several hundred concerts in countries including France, Germany, and the United States. The ensemble was founded by the vocalist Bring's, the guitarist Djey, the bassist Bux2, and the drummer Régis. Their recording career began with the debut eponymous extended play Freedom for King Kong (1997). Freedom for King Kong achieved professional recognition for the debut studio recording Citoyens du monde (1999) and the studio recording Primate diplomate (2001). Their discography included the studio recording Marche ou rêve (2003), which achieved professional recognition for being re-released with the companion remix recording Rêves en marche. The ensemble achieved professional recognition for the studio recording Issue de ce corps (2005) which featured subversive lyrics and electronic programming. The group became inactive in 2007 following final performances in Lorient, Paris, and Saint-Brieuc. The musician Bring’s achieved professional recognition for forming the project Monkey B in 2008 and releasing the solo studio recording À fleur de peau (2014). The claviériste Ton’s achieved professional recognition for joining the ensemble Saint-Lô in 2011 and participating in the ensemble Percubaba with the musician Bux2.
