Alexander Hawkins, born on May 3, 1981 in Oxford, England, is a British jazz pianist and composer. Introduced to jazz by his father through Duke Ellington recordings, Hawkins initially played classical music on the organ before transitioning to piano at age 18. He began playing jazz in his mid-teens and later formed several notable groups, including the Alexander Hawkins Ensemble, the Convergence Quartet with Taylor Ho Bynum, Harris Eisenstadt, and Dominic Lash, and the Hammond organ-based trio Decoy with John Edwards and Steve Noble. Notable albums include Leaps in Leicester (2016), Unit(e) (2017), and Togetherness Music (For Sixteen Musicians) (2021). Hawkins collaborated with various artists, including Louis Moholo-Moholo and Elaine Mitchener. He was part of the London Symphony Orchestra's Soundhub programme in 2012 and composed for BBC Radio 3's Baroque Spring series in 2013.
