Kang Ki‑young, known professionally as Dalpalan, was born on 16 July 1966 in Seoul, South Korea, and has worked as a composer and music director. After graduating from Yongsan High School, he played bass in the band Little Sky and later joined the heavy‑metal group Sinawe, before forming H 2 O and eventually the punk‑techno outfit Pippi Band. His breakthrough came in 1997 with the techno single "The Fool Bus" and the subsequent album Whistle Star, which marked the first Korean techno solo release. Dalpalan transitioned to film scoring with Bad Movie (1997) and Lies (1999), and collaborated repeatedly with Jang Young‑gyu on scores for A Bittersweet Life (2005), The Good, the Bad, the Weird (2008), and The Wailing (2016). His later works include Final Hour (2023) and Tempest (2025). He also took charge of the soundtrack for the Disney series, Moving. Dalpalan’s compositions have earned him recognition in the Korean film industry, including a music award at the 2021 Blue Dragon Film Awards, and he remains a pivotal figure in integrating techno and cinematic music in South Korea. The track "Green Cross v9 (from "Tempest"/Soundtrack Version)," released on October 2, 2025 as part of the original soundtrack for Tempest, entered Melon's Top 500 Melon domestic chart at rank 126, 6 days later.
