David Hull, known professionally as Dakota Dave Hull, born on April 19, 1950, in Fargo, North Dakota, is an American acoustic fingerstyle guitarist known for his versatility across blues, gospel, ragtime, and folk music. His career began with a strong presence in the West Bank music scene of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He gained recognition through frequent musical performances on A Prairie Home Companion. His early collaborative albums included North by Southwest (1978) and River of Swing (1977). Notable solo works included Hull’s Victory (1983), Reunion Rag (1991), and Sheridan Square Rag (2002). Hull engineered, produced, and performed with numerous artists, including Doc Watson, Dave Van Ronk, and Utah Phillips. His contributions to music history included authoring the book Ragtime Guitar in the Classic American Style (2012).
