Esmerine is a Canadian modern chamber music group from Montreal, Quebec. Formed in 2000, the ensemble was founded by percussionist Bruce Cawdron and cellist Beckie Foon, both of whom were contributors to Montreal's experimental post-rock scene. The group released its debut album, If Only a Sweet Surrender to the Nights to Come Be True, in 2003 through the labels Resonant Records and Madrona Records. This was followed by the album Aurora in 2005. In 2011, harpist Sarah Pagé and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Barr joined the ensemble for the recording of the album La Lechuza. The band's 2013 release, Dalmak, incorporated Turkish instrumentation and was recorded in Istanbul. The record was named Instrumental Album of the Year at the 2014 Juno Awards. Esmerine released the album Lost Voices in 2015, which earned a Juno Award nomination. Their subsequent recordings included the albums Mechanics of Dominion (2017) and Everything Was Forever Until It Was No More (2022). The latter recording won the 2023 Juno Award for Instrumental Album of the Year.
