Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, born in Texas, United States, is a multi-instrumentalist and ambient/experimental musician. He studied sculpture and visual arts in San Francisco before relocating to New York State. Cantu-Ledesma began his musical career as a founding member of the band Tarentel, contributing to several releases, including Tarentel (1998) and From Bone to Satellite (1999). His solo debut album, Love is a Stream, was released in 2010 under Type Records. Throughout his career, Cantu-Ledesma has been involved in various musical projects such as The Alps, Colopho, and Raum with Grouper. Notable releases include A Year with 13 Moons (2015) and collaborations like You Can See Your Own Way Out (2021) with Ilyas Ahmed. Cantu-Ledesma co-founded the drone and ambient label Root Strata, which features artists such as Tarentel, Grouper, and Yellow Swans.
