Velvet Chain is an alternative rock band from Los Angeles, California, that was formed in 1993 by bass guitarist Jeff Stacy and lead vocalist Erika Amato. The band's debut release was the EP Groovy Side (1996), which introduced a blend of trip-hop, jazz, and rock. This was followed by the album Warm (1997). The group achieved mainstream recognition after performing in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer television episode “Never Kill a Boy on the First Date”, which led to their music being featured on the show's soundtrack. Their music was also used in television series such as Sex and the City, Road Rules, Beverly Hills, 90210, and Big Shots. The band's subsequent releases include The Buffy EP (1999), the studio album Moody Groove Music (2000), the live album Velvet Chain Live at the Temple Bar (2000), The Velvet Chain Custom Album (2001), and Asteroid Belt (2003). Their last EP, Space Patrol, was issued in 2004. Velvet Chain last performed live in 2007. Stacy, whose legal name was Jeffrey Calamusa, died in August 2020. Amato is the sole current member of the group, with plans to release their unfinished collaborative album.
