Wendy Patricia James, born 21 January 1966 in London, United Kingdom, is an English singer who rose to prominence as the lead vocalist of Transvision Vamp. Adopted shortly after birth, James left home at 16 and moved to Brighton, where she met Nick Christian Sayer; together they formed the band with Dave Parsons and Tex Axile and signed with MCA in 1986. The single "Tell That Girl to Shut Up" (1987) and the follow‑up "I Want Your Love" entered the UK Top 10. Their debut album Pop Art appeared in 1988, and 1989 brought the chart‑topping single "Baby I Don't Care" and the Number 1 album Velveteen. The final studio effort, Little Magnets Versus the Bubble of Babble (1991), was released internationally; the group disbanded in 1992. James’ solo career began with Now Ain't the Time for Your Tears (1993), followed by I Came Here to Blow Minds (2010) and The Price of the Ticket (2016). She released Queen High Straight (2020) and The Shape of History (2024), the latter entering the UK Indie Chart at number 16 and the overall UK Chart at number 39.
