James Copus

James Copus, born in 1994, is a British musician who began his musical journey at age eight learning classical trumpet. Inspired by Wynton Marsalis, he transitioned to jazz and enrolled in the Junior Jazz Course at the Royal Academy of Music, where he later completed his studies with distinction, earning the Derek Watkins Prize. During his time there, Copus performed with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra on albums such as The Change (2012) and NYJO Fifty (2015). Post-graduation, he collaborated extensively with artists including Joy Ellis, Clark Tracey, and Cory Wong, and session work with Olly Murs, Pixie Lott, and Gregory Porter. Copus released his debut album, Dusk, in 2020 under Ubuntu Music.
