Two Nice Girls was a self-styled "dyke rock" band from Austin, Texas, featuring singer-songwriter Gretchen Phillips, formed in 1985 by Gretchen Phillips and Kathy Korniloff. The duo gained recognition by winning the Sweet Jane festival in Austin and released their first single, "Sweet Jane (With Affection)", which combined Lou Reed's "Sweet Jane" with Joan Armatrading's "Love and Affection" in 1989. The band expanded to include Laurie Freelove, releasing their debut album 2 Nice Girls in 1989 under Rough Trade Records. Freelove left the group later that year, and Meg Hentges joined as her replacement. The band continued with the release of Like A Version in 1990, and Chloe Liked Olivia in 1991. They won a GLAAD Media Award in 1991. The group disbanded in 1992, with members pursuing various solo projects.
