János Kristóf Bródy is a Hungarian singer-songwriter, guitarist, and composer born on April 5, 1946, in Budapest. After graduating from the Puskás Tivadar Telecommunication Technical School, he joined the beat band Illés in 1964. The ensemble achieved fame with albums such as Long Tall Sally and Little Richard/Chapel, beginning his acclaimed musical partnership with Levente Szörényi. Following a controversial statement regarding police work at a 1973 concert in Diósgyőr, Bródy was fined and the band split. He subsequently co-founded the group Fonográf, which released eleven studio albums between 1974 and 1984. After Fonográf dissolved, he focused on his solo career with releases including Hungarian Blues in 1980 and Az utca másik oldalán in 1994. He also composed for theatrical works such as the rock ballad Kőműves Kelemen in 1981 and the rock opera István, a király in 1983. Bródy received the Kossuth Prize in 2000.
