sputniks down

Sputniks Down is a Scottish post-rock band from Bishopbriggs, Glasgow, formed in 1996. The trio consists of Andrew Blue on bass, David Roy on guitar, and Martyn Healy on keyboard. The group’s name was derived from a song by the Folk Implosion. Signed to the Edinburgh label Human Condition Records, the ensemble recorded their debut EP, Monotone Mountain, in January 2000 with engineer Tony Doogan at CaVa Studios. The EP was released on 17 April 2000, and its launch was celebrated with a performance at Avalanche in Edinburgh that was reviewed by the NME. In 2003, the band released their debut studio album, Much Was Decided Before You Were Born. This recording featured collaborations with artists from El Hombre Trajeado and Luke Sutherland of Long Fin Killie. The band supported acts including Mull Historical Society, American Analog Set, and Fly Pan Am. Following a 2003 tour of Greece, the group split up. Roy later performed with Multiplies and became a founding member of Dananananaykroyd. Sputniks Down resumed activity in April 2010.
