Gebhard Ullmann, born 2 November 1957 in Bad Godesberg, is a German jazz musician and composer. Ullman began studying classical flute before learning flute and saxophone at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre and wth Herb Geller and Dave Liebman. His early career included collaborations with guitarist Andreas Willers, the Out to Lunch quartet, and the Minimal Kidds. In 1991, he launched Tá Lam, a touring ensemble that released four albums and earned critical acclaim. Signing with labels Soul Note, Leo Records, and Between the Lines, he has released albums like The Big Band Project (2004), Die Blaue Nixe (2006), and New Basement Research (2007). His work extended into composition for chamber ensembles and orchestras, culminating in the 2024 release of Impromptus und Interationen and the 2025 String Quartets. Ullmann received the Julius Hemphill Composition Award in 1999, the first Berlin Jazz Award in 2017, and the German Jazz Prize for woodwinds in 2022.
