Patti Rothberg (born May 4 1972 in New York City) is an American singer‑songwriter whose early life included piano lessons at age three and a shift to guitar by age eight. After graduating from the Parsons School of Design with an illustration major, she performed as a street musician in Manhattan’s 14th‑Street station, where a chance encounter led to demo recordings that secured a contract with EMI in February 1995. Her debut album Between the 1 and the 9 was released on 2 April 1996, featuring singles such as "Turning Japanese" / "Kung Fu Fighting" and "Inside", which reached Number 71 on the U.S. singles chart; the album sold over 300,000 copies in the United States and 200,000 internationally. Rothberg toured extensively in 1996‑1998, opening for acts like The Wallflowers, Chris Isaak, and Garbage, and appeared on national television programs including The Tonight Show and Late Show with David Letterman. After the dissolution of her EMI deal, she released Double Standards in May 2008 on her own label, Double on Tundra Records, followed by Black Widow (2013) and Ulterior Motives (2016). Her work has been featured in films such as Beverly Hills Ninja and The Misadventures of Margaret, and she continues to produce music and art within the alternative rock and folk‑rock genres.
