Abid Tounssi, known professionally as Salah Edin, was born on June 23, 1980, in Alphen-sur-le-Rhin, the Netherlands. He is a Dutch rapper of Moroccan descent who began his career in the 1990s, initially rapping in English before transitioning to Arabic and Dutch. His stage name is inspired by the Kurdish general Saladin El Ayoubi. Salah Edin's breakthrough came when he signed with Cilvaringz’s label in 2003, leading to collaborations with international artists such as Wu-Tang Clan and Sean Paul. In 2007, he released his debut Dutch album Nederlands Grootste Nachtmerrie, produced by Focus, Dr. Dre’s right-hand man. The album sparked controversy due to its cover art and the music video for "Het Land Van ...", which led to a petition for its removal. Salah Edin also appeared in several films, including Bolletjes Blues (2006) and Fitna (2008). In 2016, he announced his retirement from music due to religious reasons.
