Lying in States was an American indie rock band from Chicago, Illinois. Formed in 1999, the group initially gained traction by touring extensively across the United States with notable acts such as Rainer Maria and Hot Hot Heat. Their first release was the Bewildered Herd EP in 2002 on Harmless Records. The band's debut full-length album, Most Every Night, was recorded at Semaphore Studios in Chicago and released by Flameshovel Records in 2004. Following this, Lying in States continued to build their reputation with another LP, Wildfire on the Lake, released in 2006. This period also saw them embarking on a US tour to support the album. The band's lineup included Justin Trombly on bass, Fergus Kaiser and Ben Clarke on guitars, Mark Benson on drums, and Jeremy Ohmes on keyboards. Lying in States disbanded in 2006.
