Azalia Snail is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist born in Philadelphia. She began her musical training at age six with piano lessons and later transitioned to playing the guitar. In 1987, she moved to New York City and began recording solo music, achieving early recognition through regular airplay on WFMU's "Lo-Fi" radio show. During the 1990s, she wrote and recorded eight solo albums and toured with bands including Low and the Grifters. Snail played a majority of the instruments on these recordings, including zithers, keyboards and percussion. In 2000, she received the LA Weekly Music Award for Best New-Genre/Uncategorizable Artist. Her recording history included the albums Fumarole Rising (1994), Blue Danube (1995), Celestial Respect (2011), Neon Resistance (2018) and POWERLOVER (2024). Snail has also composed film scores for several independent features, including the soundtrack for the MTV program Ain't Nuthin' But a She Thing.
