Cimarrón is a Colombian musical group from the Orinoco region. Formed as a professional band in 2000 by the singer Ana Veydó and the harpist Carlos Rojas, the ensemble performs joropo music incorporating indigenous and African influences. The band released its debut studio album, Sí, soy llanero, in 2004 through the label Smithsonian Folkways Recordings. The record was nominated for Best Traditional World Music Album at the 47th Annual Grammy Awards. During its career, the group has performed at international events including the WOMAD Festival and the Newport Folk Festival. In 2007, the ensemble collaborated with the harpist Catrin Finch on the live recording Catrin Finch and Cimarron Live YN BYW. The band subsequently issued the studio albums ¡Cimarrón! Joropo Music from the Plains of Colombia (2011) and Orinoco (2019). In 2020, the ensemble was named Best Group at the Songlines Music Awards. Rojas died in 2020. The group’s later recording history included the studio album La Recia (2022).
