Spencer Patrick Jones was born on October 28, 1956, and was a New Zealand guitarist and singer‑songwriter from Te Awamutu who moved to Australia in 1976 and joined the band The Johnnys as lead guitarist and later vocalist, co‑writing their debut single "I Think You're Cute". In 1994, he released his debut solo album Rumour of Death, followed by The Last Gasp (2000) and The Lost Anxiety Tapes (2001) on Spooky Records. His 2003 release Fait Accompli featured collaborations with Cow Penalty, Escape Committee and The Beeks. He continued with Immolation & Amelioration 1995-2005 (2006), Fugitive Songs (2007), a live record Hang On… Hang On… Live from Melbourne (2008), and Sobering Thoughts (2010) with the Escape Committee. He also issued Spencer P. Jones and the Nothing Butts (2012) and Runaways (2013). In May 2012, Australian Guitar magazine listed him among Australia’s Top 40 guitarists. After a diagnosis of inoperable liver cancer in March 2018, he performed a benefit concert for bandmate Chris Bailey before passing away on August 21, 2018.
