Georg Spitaler, known professionally as George McAnthony, was born on April 6, 1966, in Eppan an der Weinstraße, South Tyrol, Italy. He began his musical career in 1988 and adopted the stage name George McAnthony in honor of his late father Anton. McAnthony released his debut album Green is Peace in 1989 and went on to record 15 albums, including three produced in Nashville. Notable works include "Weekend Cowboy" from the album of the same name and a duet with John Denver. He received several international awards, including Best Artist, Best Male Interpreter, and Best Country Song of the Year. McAnthony passed away on July 8, 2011, due to a heart attack while vacationing in Terracina.
