Echobrain was an American rock band formed in 2000, featuring bassist Jason Newsted following his departure from Metallica. The group originated with drummer Brian Sagrafena and singer/guitarist Dylan Donkin, who met at a Super Bowl party in 1995. In May 2000, they entered the studio to record demos professionally, assisted by musicians including Kirk Hammett and Jim Martin. Echobrain released three albums before disbanding in 2005. Their self-titled debut was released in 2002 through Surfdog. The band faced legal challenges, notably a trademark infringement lawsuit from Texas funk band Echo Drain, which was dismissed in their favor in August 2003. Echobrain opened for Neil Young and appeared in his film Greendale. The band became inactive, and all its members have pursued various projects.
