Aqua Bassino is the stage name of Scottish electronic producer and DJ Jason Nicholas Robertson. Born in Edinburgh, he began his musical career as a bass player in several jazz-funk ensembles before transitioning to studio-based electronic music. He achieved early recognition with the release of his debut EP, “Swirl”, in 1995 on the French label F Communications. This was followed by the EPs “Deeper” (1997), “Pools” (1998) and “Wave” (1999). Robertson issued his debut studio album, Beat's n Bobs, in 2001. The recording blended house and downtempo beats with elements of jazz, soul and blues, featuring collaborations with saxophonist Martin Kershaw, singer Niki King and African vocalist Nahawa Doumbia. In 2002, he released the single “Baby C'Mon”, which featured remixes by producers Ron Trent and Fabrice Lig. His second studio album, Rue de Paris, appeared in 2006. Robertson's musical style is noted for its melancholy atmosphere, which critics have attributed to his upbringing in post-industrial Edinburgh. He has also produced laid-back house music under the pseudonym Jay Salino.
