Jared Mattson is an American multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer. Guitarist, bassist and keyboardist, he is best known as one of the two members of San Diego-based instrumental duo The Mattson 2, which he formed with his twin brother Jonathan Mattson. Raised in California, he began playing music at an early age and went on to pursue a classical musical education, developing a style rooted in jazz fusion, surf rock and experimental instrumental music. With The Mattson 2, he is known for his blend of improvisation-rich jazz, surf guitar sounds typical of the American West Coast and psychedelic textures, often creating sweeping, groovy compositions that are both cinematic and free. Outside the duo, Jared Mattson has also collaborated on projects with artists such as Toro y Moi, and in 2023 released the solo album Peanut, exploring dream pop, experimental rock and guitar-centric melodic writing. In 2026, he teamed up with Ruban Nielson of Unknown Mortal Orchestra to record the album Fear.
