Impressionnant tout le monde avec ses ballades merveilleusement innocentes et sa présence naturelle sur scène, l'auteur-compositeur-interprète jouant du ukulélé Grace VanderWaal n'avait que 12 ans lorsqu'elle a remporté l'émission de télévision "America's Got Talent" en 2016 et a été surnommée la "prochaine Taylor Swift" par Simon Cowell.

Née au Kansas mais élevée à Suffren, dans l'État de New York, Mme VanderWaal a commencé à chanter à l'âge de trois ans et a joué du saxophone dans des orchestres scolaires avant de participer à des séances de micro ouvert dans des cafés locaux après avoir économisé son argent de poche pour s'acheter un ukulélé. Trop jeune pour participer à "American Idol", sa mère l'a inscrite à "America's Got Talent". Lors de son audition, Howie Mandel l'a invitée à participer à la finale en direct en lui donnant un "golden buzzer", après avoir stupéfié les juges. En remportant la grande finale avec son interprétation de sa chanson originale "I Don't Know My Name" - une chanson d'une maturité et d'une puissance remarquables - elle a reçu le million de dollars de prix et a décroché un contrat avec Columbia Records avant que son premier album "Perfectly Imperfect" ne devienne rapidement l'EP le plus vendu de l'année.

VanderWaal a jonglé entre le travail scolaire et les spectacles au sommet de l'Empire State Building, a chanté au Madison Square Garden lors d'un match des New York Knicks et lors de la cérémonie d'ouverture des Jeux olympiques spéciaux d'hiver, tandis que les vidéos de ses performances ont atteint des centaines de millions de vues et qu'elle est rapidement devenue l'une des plus grandes vedettes adolescentes des États-Unis. Le single pop acoustique "Moonlight" a suivi, et elle a sorti son premier album "Just the Beginning" en 2017 avant de partir en tournée à guichets fermés aux États-Unis.
