With this new solo project, Charlotte Maquet, aka Aucklane, has emerged as one of the most interesting new voices on the Belgian alternative and independent scene.
In 2024, she is back with several new singles, recorded in Brittany alongside French producer Nicolas Quéré, who is behind records by big names such as Arctic Monkeys and Nick Cave, while finalising a debut album, due in September. Aucklane will be touring from April 2024.
- Career path
As soon as her first self-produced single Gamblers was released, Aucklane instantly attracted the interest of the national press, who saw in her the "next generation of Belgian rock" and made her one of the artists to watch very closely. Each of the five tracks on her debut EP Nightfall found its way onto the radio. With a 5/5 rating, she shared the stage with renowned artists such as Ozark Henry on TV and Charles and Typh Barrow on radio.
A singer-songwriter, arranger and performer, Aucklane stands out for her elegant, sensual rock, her ethereal, raw voice, her intelligent songwriting and her catchy melodies... as much as for her polished, mysterious universe.
But it's live, surrounded by her musicians - Sébastien Beaumont, Thibault Jungers and Gilles Vermeyen - that Aucklane displays the full extent of her abilities, proving herself to be a captivating frontwoman in such high-profile shows as the Francofolies de Spa, the Botanique (Brussels), opening for Status Quo at Hemmiksen's Casa Blanca Festival at the Reflektor (Liège)... as well as in Switzerland, France and Luxembourg.
- Rock poetess
Aucklane is the artistic alter-ego of Liège-born Charlotte Maquet, who has been active on the Belgian music scene since 2008, notably with her first folk pop project (Monday Morning) and since 2017, behind the keyboards of Condore, the solo project of Leticia Collet (keyboardist for Dan San, Antoine Wielemans, Noa Moon...)
Marked by the urgency to live intensely and the need to transcend one's demons, Aucklane recounts the complexity of human existence against a backdrop of urban sleepless nights, exploring themes such as internal struggles, female power, addictions...
Their love of English poetry, their passion for the electricity of rock'n'roll and their diverse influences give Aucklane a singular artistic identity that sets them apart on the Belgian music scene.
Aucklane is particularly influenced by the work of 2010s rock and pop artists such as Alex Turner, Jack White and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and is just as inspired by poets such as Patti Smith and Florence Welch.
Infused with Aucklane's strong, poetic and gently rebellious personality, all these sources give life to a nocturnal universe of rough, hazy, rock'n'roll ambiences, where electric tracks and disarmingly sensitive ballads rub shoulders.
