Riger, a German Viking/pagan metal band from Frankfurt (Oder), was formed in 1996 as a sextet. Their early work included a self-released demo titled Die Belagerung. The band's debut album, Der Wanderer, was released in 1998 under CCP Records and featured some tracks from the demo. Following this, Riger released Hamingja in 1999, which showcased a more keyboard-driven sound. After the departure of their keyboardist Roberto Liebig, the band's music shifted towards a heavier, guitar-focused style with albums like Des Blutes Stimme (2002) and Gjallar (2004), the latter of which is partially classified as death metal. Despite internal issues that hindered new material production from 2006 onwards, Riger released their final album, Streyf, in 2009. The band disbanded on May 22, 2015.
