H.P. Zinker, a German rock band formed in 1989 by Hans Platzgumer and Andi Pümpel in New York, quickly became part of the Lower-Eastside scene, playing alongside notable acts such as Sonic Youth and Ween. Their debut EP ...And There Was Light was released on Matador Records in 1989 and featured a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Dancing Days". The band evolved into a trio with the addition of Dave Wasik for their second album, Beyond It All, in 1990. In 1992, Andi Pümpel left the group, leading to the inclusion of Stephan Apicella as the new guitarist. Their final studio album, Mountains of Madness (1994), featured a title track written by H.P. Lovecraft and was notable for its award-nominated cover design by Stefan Sagmeister. The band disbanded in 1995.
