Funk Masters were a British reggae-funk band formed in London in 1979 by DJ Tony Williams. Williams wrote, arranged, and produced the band's debut 1980 single, “(Money) No Love” by Bo Kool, featuring the instrumental B-side “Love Money”, which is regarded as one of the first British rap recordings. The track was recorded at Hillside Studio in London, drawing inspiration from Dennis Brown's “Money in My Pocket” and The Sugarhill Gang's “Rapper's Delight”. In June 1983, Funk Masters achieved commercial success with the single “It's Over”, which reached number 8 on the UK Singles Chart. The track featured uncredited vocals from Juliet Roberts and horn contributions by the band Gonzalez. Funk Masters released subsequent singles including “Have You Got the Time” in 1984 and a re-recording of “Love Money” in 1986 before disbanding in 1988.
