The Foxymorons, an American guitar pop duo from Mesquite, Texas, were formed in 1994 by childhood friends David Dewese and Jerry James. The band's origins trace back to their high school days when they pretended to be in a group called the "Foxymorons" during church camp. Their first significant step came when they released a single that was mailed to radio stations, fanzines, and distributors. This led to Mel Cheplowitz of American Pop Project Records inviting them to release an album, resulting in their debut Calcutta in 1999. Despite having never played a live show at the time, the album received positive reviews. The band's unique recording process involved sending tapes back and forth between Dallas and Nashville. Their subsequent albums included Rodeo City (2001), Hesitation Eyes (2005), and Bible Stories (2010). In 2015, they released Fake Yoga, which featured Will Johnson on drums and received generally favorable reviews.
