Malcolm-Jamal Warner, born in Jersey City, New Jersey, on August 18, 1970, was an American actor, musician, and poet. Warner rose to national prominence playing Theodore Huxtable on the sitcom The Cosby Show from 1984 to 1992, earning a Primetime Emmy Award nomination in 1986. His music career began with his debut jazz-funk extended play, The Miles Long Mixtape, in 2003, followed by his album Love & Other Social Issues in 2007. In 2015, Warner won a Grammy Award for Best Traditional R&B Performance for his spoken-word performance on Robert Glasper Experiment's cover of “Jesus Children of America” featuring Lalah Hathaway. That same year, he released his studio album Selfless. His 2022 spoken-word poetry album, Hiding in Plain View, received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Spoken Word Poetry Album in 2023. Warner made his final on-screen appearance in the television series Murder in a Small Town in 2025. He died by drowning in Limón Province, Costa Rica, on July 20, 2025.
