Alex Koo Derudder, also known as Alex Koo, was born on February 10, 1990, in Waregem, Belgium, and is a Belgian jazz musician, pianist, and composer who began classical piano at five and earned the Wunderkind title after multiple Cantabile Concours awards. He studied jazz piano in Kortrijk, earned a bachelor’s at Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag, completed a master’s in Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and New York. He has won the 2010 Prins Christina Concours first prize and the 2015 B‑Jazz Award for best composition. His debut album Dance of Hope was released in 2014, followed by Appleblueseagreen (2019) with Mark Turner and Ralph Alessi, which earned a Down Beat Best Albums of 2019, and Identified Flying Object (2021), which featured Ralph Alessi and Attila Gyárfás. His 2025 album Blame It on My Chromosomes received Down Beat four stars.
