Yr Anhrefn are a Welsh punk rock band from Bangor formed in 1982. The ensemble was established by bassist Rhys Mwyn and initially performed exclusively in the Welsh language. Mwyn founded the label Recordiau Anhrefn in 1983 to promote the group and other Welsh-language artists. They achieved professional recognition following three sessions for John Peel on BBC Radio 1 and toured extensively across Europe, including Germany and Czechoslovakia. Their recording career includes the studio albums Defaid, Skateboards a Wellies (1987), Bwrw Cwrw (1989), and Dial y Ddraig (1990). They collaborated with Pauline Murray on the track “Llygad wrth Lygad” (1990) and released their first English-language recording in 1994, a single featuring actress Margi Clarke. In 1995, Mwyn and Sion Sebon shifted to a techno sound under the name Hen Wlad fy Mamau – Land of My Mothers, which released a self-titled studio album. The ensemble became inactive in 1995 but resumed activity in 2007 and again in 2016 for live performances.
