Stress was an American pop rock band formed in San Diego, California, in 1983. The group was founded by bassist Josquin des Pres and vocalist and guitarist Mike Thomas, who subsequently added guitarist Tim Nicholson to the lineup. They went through a number of drummers, including Jeff Gabaldon and Leroy Vega. In 1984, the band released their debut single, “Killing Me Night & Day” / “It's Too Bad”, followed by their debut studio album, Killing Me Night & Day, through Burnett Records. In early 1985, Nicholson departed and was replaced by guitarist Jimmy Crespo. In 1985, they released the single “Search for the Fool” / “You're So Critical” through N.E.W. Records. The band performed primarily in San Diego and Los Angeles, playing at venues such as FM Station, Madame Wong's, The Troubadour, and The Roxy. Stress disbanded in late 1987 when des Pres began a career as a record producer and Thomas launched a solo career, recording the album Circular Motion in France in 1988, which des Pres produced.
